Through an in-depth discussion and case illustrations, Roger Keizerstein, LCSW, will differentiate between Trauma referred to with a capital “T” and the type of traumas referred to with a lower case “t.”  Throughout this presentation, he will explain how the autonomic nervous system (ANS) functions by defining specific symptoms and behaviors found in a Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Accumulated Stress Injury.

Audience participation will be encouraged to enhance learning about the various implications of traumas and to reinforce an understanding of the impact of trauma on the brain and ANS. Mr. Keizerstein will demonstrate various treatment approaches for effective treatment of symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and accumulated stress injury.

Learning Objectives:

As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. List features of the autonomic nervous system and describe how injury to this system is at the core of post-traumatic stress symptoms.
  2. Define the difference between Post Traumatic Stress and Accumulated
    Stress Injury.
  3. Identify the most recent treatment approaches for trauma and post traumatic stress symptom relief by explaining how you would apply (a) cognitive re-association and integration and facilitate (b) titration of bound up traumatic energy.

Presenter:
Roger Keizerstein, LCSW, trained in child and family therapy at the North Suffolk Mental Health Center in Smithtown, New York and received a postgraduate certificate of training from the International Association of Trauma Professionals.  He has presented on trauma throughout the New York Metropolitan area.  Roger Keizerstein, LSCW has been in private practice for thirty-five years.  He specializes in working with adults, children and families suffering from trauma. 

The space can accommodate approximately 30 attendees.

This seminar is appropriate for clinicians with all levels of experience.

Who Should Attend: psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, licensed psychoanalysts, nurse practitioners and family and marriage/couple therapists and mental health counselors.
