This Lecture is open to anyone hoping to learn more about treatment strategies for difficult to treat life patterns through the use of Schema Therapy (ST). There will be a brief overview of common symptoms and life-patterns experienced by individuals, including common diagnoses of individuals suffering from complex trauma; an overview of Schema Therapy and how to apply ST strategies in an outpatient treatment setting. This will include the assessment process, identifying life patterns and connected maladaptive schema and coping modes; evidence-based tools to use for assessment; practice in the implementation of core principles of ST; strategies of meeting heretofore unmet needs in the therapeutic process. The presentation will have an in depth focus on strategies to help individuals heal from dysfunctional schemas formed by repeated or prolonged unmet childhood needs.

As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify 5 domains of distorted schemas.
  2. Identify 4 dysfunctional behavior patterns that can be successfully treated.
  3. Identify 3 techniques to help clients bring therapy in to their everyday lives.
  4. Identify 4 core unmet needs associated with complex trauma and other life patterns.
  5. List two experiential techniques that will help identify and break links with maladaptive schemas.

Presenter:
Elizabeth Lacy, LCSW,
Advanced Certification in Schema Therapy (ST), Certified Clinical Supervisor and Trainer for the International Society for Schema Therapy. She is a member of the International Society for Schema Therapy, serving on their board subcommittees.  Ms. Lacy develops and implements training programs for the NY/NJ Schema Institute. Throughout her long career in human services she has worked in mental health day treatment programs, served as clinical director for an HIV service organization and has been trained in several evidence-based psychotherapy models including exposure/response prevention, prolonged exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy and other CBT-based models. Her focus for the past 10 years has been working with individuals with PTSD, chronic anxiety disorders and personality disorders, especially Borderline and Narcissistic Personality Disorder. 

This seminar is appropriate for clinicians with all levels of experience.
