Families created through adoption are not immune to the established family and community dynamics that affect all members. Some of these dynamics are transmitted from various generations, regardless of biology or genetics but often, nuances specific to families created by adoption are not always recognized or supported in current family theories and practice models. Therefore, adoptees, adoptive parents, and other family members can be further traumatized without this understanding in treatment. This presentation will discuss intergenerational trauma, its transmission in families, along with what therapists and clinicians can do to fully support families created by adoption in treatment.
*NYSSCSW Discount applies to NYSSCSW current members only.
**Student Discount only applies to full time students currently enrolled in social work and MHP master level programs.
Please register by Thursday, March 20 at 5pm.
