56th Annual Education Conference
Dr. Huey Hawkins will explore Donald Winnicott’s conceptualization of the antisocial tendency of certain youth, including a focus on a case study and the foster care system in a large Midwestern city, intersecting with race and class barriers. There will be an emphasis on the role of deprivation as a mechanism for antisocial tendencies. Dr. Hawkins will speak from his experiences of nearly 12 years of working with a Black male child client in foster care. Dr. Hawkins will discuss his provision of a maternal environment during extremely tumultuous times in the client’s life.

3. Identify the role of management in psychodynamic treatments.

This seminar is appropriate for clinicians with all levels of experience.
Dr. Huey Hawkins, Jr. earned his doctorate degree in clinical social work from the Institute for Clinical Social Work. His research and clinical interests focus on the intersection of culture, race, and the unconscious. His dissertation explored the unconscious messages of endangerment that mothers convey to their African American sons. With extensive clinical experience, Dr. Hawkins has a storied history of providing psychotherapy services to African American boys and men in various public and private settings, including his psychotherapy practice in St. Louis and Oklahoma City. He also served as a Core Faculty member at the Institute for Clinical Social Work.
Dr. Hawkins enjoys teaching social work theory and practice classes to beginning social work students.
Contact Hours will be awarded once the entire course is completed, as evidenced by signing in and out and completing a course evaluation. Certificates will be emailed approximately ten business days after the completion of the course.
