The New York State Society For Clinical Social Work Mid-Hudson Chapter With The Advanced Clinical Education Foundation presents:
Dances of Intimacy introduces a psychoanalytically oriented approach to couple therapy, comparing individual (bi-personal field) and couple (tri-personal field) models and the role of the therapist as a participant-observer and “significant third”. Clinical exploration offers an eclectic paradigm (e.g., object relations, relational and self-psych), applying contemporary research on childhood trauma, implicit and explicit communication, the “multigenerational transmission process”, and impact of sociocultural (e.g., race, gender, class, age) constructions. Clinical vignettes highlight the “location” of the therapist and the impact of the bio-social environment (e.g., pandemic) on coupling struggles and adaptation.

Psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, licensed psychoanalysts, nurse practitioners and family and marriage/couple therapists and mental health counselors.
This seminar is appropriate for clinicians with all levels of experience.
Claire Beth Steinberger is a School Psychologist, Licensed Psychoanalyst and Marriage and Family Therapist and Supervisory Member of American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and served as Clinical Supervisor, NYC Bd of Education Family Counseling Program. She is Senior Faculty, National Psychological Association of Psychoanalysis, Adjunct Associate Professor Long Island University, and author of numerous articles and presentations emphasizing an eclectic and interdisciplinary approach to clinical inquiry (re: Teenage Depression: A Cultural, Interpersonal, Intrapsychic Perspective, Psychoanalytic. Review; International Psychohistory Association, Frozen Time: Trauma in the Tri-Personal Field).
