ACE Foundation Programs
The majority of treatment failures with adopted clients often lie in the clinician’s inexperience and/or lack of understanding of the esoteric psychological and psychodynamic world of the adoptee. Observation and reported previous therapeutic experiences by adopted clients demonstrate the lack of such essential knowledge and its effect on treatment approaches which can too often determine the success or hindrance of therapeutic outcomes.
In this workshop, Mr. Glintz, LCSW/BCD will present an overview of the historical and theoretical perspectives on adoption. He will discuss the myths vs. realities of being adopted, the concept of “primal wound” and the “fracture” model. By providing case vignettes, he will illustrate how he uses these concepts as a treatment guide and tool as he addresses the adoptee’s resistance, transference as well as his own countertransference.

The Advanced Clinical Education (ACE) Foundation of the NYS Society for Clinical Social Work, Inc. is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed marriage and family therapists #MFT-0028; licensed mental health counselors #MHC-0045; licensed psychoanalysts #P-0017; licensed psychologists #PSY-0121; and licensed social workers #SW-0056.
Out-of-state providers are welcome to request a certificate upon completion of the presentation evaluation but must check with their own state licensing boards to inquire about whether or not the certificate is recognized as transferrable for CEs in their state’s jurisdiction.

Bernie Michael Glintz, LCSW, BCD, FAPA, DPNAP is the former president of the Queens Chapter of the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work. He has enjoyed a multi-faceted career in mental health, corporate and forensic consulting for over 35 years. Himself an adoptee, Mr. Glintz is a senior clinician and recipient of several professional honors including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare, Fellowship status by the American Psychotherapy Association and as a Distinguished Practitioner and Fellow of the National Academy of Practice. In his private practice, Mr. Glintz sub-specializes in adoption psychology, he provides treatment and clinical consultation for adoptive parents, adoptees and clinical supervision. Mr. Glintz has presented at many adoption conferences and clinical venues on a plethora of clinical adoption issues and has appeared on national television talk shows regarding controversial adoption issues.
Contact Hours will be awarded once the entire course is completed, as evidenced by signing in and out and completing a course evaluation. Certificates will be emailed approximately ten business days after the completion of the course.
