Conference Description

Professional identity is always evolving regardless of age. As clinicians, we learn how to help our patients find meaning in their lives and hold onto hope during uncertain, trying times. Simultaneously, the choices and commitments we make have profound meaning. We are always at work on ourselves, whether it be through creativity, self-reflections, clinical processing and further learning. How does one navigate the lived, shared experience of external factors impacting the world? What does one do when one’s career has reached a crucial point that can have an impact on both the therapist and patient? What prompts one to make certain decisions in order to maintain a balanced lifestyle both within and outside of one’s practice? Join us for thought-evoking live online presentations on two Saturdays, April 20th and April 27th 2024, from 9am-12:30pm EST each day. Four distinguished clinicians, who have worked in various communities as psychotherapists and/or psychoanalysts, will share their insights with us about what has helped them to work through the vicissitudes of their clinical work and to make a lasting impact in many lives.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this clinical continuing education activity, participants will be able to:
1) Describe the phases of a clinical career
2) Identify at least three intrinsic and external factors that have a profound impact on one’s professional identity
3) Reflect on the vicissitudes of one’s own clinical practice at any crucial point of one’s career path
4) Enhance use of self when working through transference and countertransference manifestations
