Anti-Asian hate erupted with unprecedented visibility in 2020, triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. We started three Zoom groups specifically for Asian American therapists to facilitate a sense of safety. But is it racist to exclude others based on their race? In this workshop, we discuss affinity groups and Asian Americans, explore through a fishbowl group experience hate, safety, belonging, and being Asian American. The language and knowledge we have today stands on the shoulders of those who come before us, namely, anti-racist writers, scholars, and leaders, who are fighting anti-black and indigenous thoughts and behavior.
