ACE Foundation Programs
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) affects a sizable minority of people. It doesn’t discriminate in terms of gender, age, race, socioeconomic or other demographic factors. Clinical understanding of OCD has expanded to include a spectrum of different manifestations or “types”. A key aspect of this presentation will be describing these OCD “types”. We’ll look at what they all have in common, while recognizing that every person’s experience with OCD is unique. I will offer a brief history of our professional understanding of OCD. In addition, we’ll look at the causes, as best our profession can hypothesize, for this disorder.
Gestalt therapy theory and practice will underpin the learning in this workshop. The format will also compare and contrast the ways other psychotherapy modalities theorize on, and treat, obsessive-compulsive behavior. These modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and medication management.
This 3-hour presentation will include didactic and experiential work as well as interactive group discussion.

Adam Weitz, LCSW is a Gestalt psychotherapist and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in New York City. He is a graduate of The NYU Silver School of Social Work. Adam is a recent President of The New York Institute for Gestalt Therapy.
Before starting his private practice, Adam was as a staff therapist at The Blanton Peale Institute and Counseling Center in New York City. At Blanton Peale, he had the opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of people and issues. He carries this experience into his ongoing work as a therapist.
Adam is a Full member of The New York Institute for Gestalt Therapy (NYIGT); a member of The International Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy, (IAAGT); a member of The National Association of Social Workers (NASW); and a member of Identity House, a volunteer, non-profit peer counseling organization serving the needs of LGBTQ people. Adam is currently a supervising therapist at Identity House.
Adam is passionate about Gestalt Therapy. In addition to being a Gestalt Therapy trainer, he offers gestalt-based workshops that explore current social conditions. These have included, “You, Me and Our Cellphones”; “Looming Figures on Shaky Ground: This Era’s Authoritarianism”; and “Looking Up and Looking Down: Ranking, an Activity at the Contact Boundary”. Adam has trained or presented at The Fifth Avenue Counseling Center; Identity House; The Gestalt Center, The International Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy; and The New York Institute for Gestalt Therapy.
Contact Hours will be awarded once the entire course is completed, as evidenced by signing in and out and completing a course evaluation. Certificates will be emailed approximately ten business days after the completion of the course.
