THE NEW YORK STATE SOCIETY FOR CLINICAL SOCIAL WORK MID-HUDSON CHAPTER WITH THE ADVANCED CLINICAL EDUCATION FOUNDATION PRESENTS:

COMBINING IMAGINAL AND RELATIONAL SKILL SETS IN PSYCHOTHERAPY - LIVE ONLINE VIA ZOOM

Program Description

In this workshop, therapist-participants will be taught the nuts and bolts of reparative relational and imaginative approaches. Two related and complementary approaches will emphasize: Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), which focuses on the therapist-patient relationship in the here-and-now; and Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor (PBSP), which emphasizes imaginative re-processing of historical events. Both client-centered approaches share the following tools, which will be taught: slowing the client down, careful, moment-to-moment tracking, employing a non-directive, non-interpretive therapist stance, assessing the client’s receptivity, supporting the client’s agency. The presenter will teach specific relational skills, such as therapist self-disclosure, client affirmation language, undoing aloneness, normalization, the provision of comfort, support and a sense of place in the here-and-now of the therapist-patient relationship. He will also teach specific imaginal skills, such as generating and using reversals, teaching patients how to use the suspension of disbelief, generating imagined antidotes to negative historical events and relationships, the use of imagined external figures and imagined parts of the self.
