Program Description

Course material will include a detailed description and analysis of the neuroscience-based theories of the leading practitioners in the mental health field. John Arden (Mind-Brain-Gene: Toward Psychotherapy Integration), Bruce Ecker (Memory Reconsolidation In Psychotherapy), Eric Gentry (Forward Facing Trauma Therapy), Richard Hill and Matthew Dahlitz’s (A Practitioner’s Guide To The Science of Psychotherapy), Francine Shapiro (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy: EMDR Basic Principles, Protocols and Procedures), Gail Parker (Transforming Ethnic and Race-Based Traumatic Stress with Yoga).

Program Details

By the end of this continuing education activity, participants will be able to:

1. Articulate an understanding of John Arden’s three operating systems of the brain and its treatment implications.
2. Describe Memory Consolidation Theory and its treatment implications.
3. Distinguish between Eric Gentry’s Interoception and Titration Treatment approach to Trauma and Post-traumatic Stress and Francine Shapiro’s Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Treatment approach.
4. Elaborate on the neuroscientific underpinnings of emotions and behaviors.
5. Recognize the neuroscientific underpinnings of Yoga and how Gail Parker has integrated it into her psychotherapy practice to treat Ethnic and Race-Based Trauma and Post-traumatic Stress.

Psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, licensed psychoanalysts, nurse practitioners and family and marriage/couple therapists and mental health counselors.

This seminar is appropriate for clinicians with all levels of experience.

Roger Keizerstein, LCSW, has been a pediatric clinical social worker, certified trauma professional, writer, and public speaker for over 40 years. He is a frequent contributor to the Science of Psychotherapy Magazine and his collection of case studies, “A Child Who Felt Too Much and Other Therapeutic Tales of Love and Healing For The New Millennium”, was published in March 2022. He practices in East Setauket, Long Island and conducts workshops and gives lectures throughout New York State.
