Often time, prospective employees sabotage their chances for employment by certain behaviors they may not even be aware of. Resumes which resemble “War and Peace” may look like a winner but will likely be tossed in the “circular file.” Being prepared for an interview can mean more than just showing up.

The Advanced Clinical Education (ACE) Foundation of the NYS Society for Clinical Social Work, Inc. is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed marriage and family therapists #MFT-0028; licensed mental health counselors #MHC-0045; licensed psychoanalysts #P-0017; licensed psychologists #PSY-0121; and licensed social workers #SW-0056.

Out of State Providers:

Out-of-state providers are welcome to request a certificate upon completion of the presentation evaluation but must check with their own state licensing boards to inquire about whether or not the certificate is recognized as transferrable for CEs in their state’s jurisdiction.

Program Details

After attending this workshop participants will be able to:

  1. Identify challenges and obstacles in getting and keeping an agency job from the perspective of both employer and employee.
  2. List the best ways to navigate the agency culture and how agencies have changed over time.
  3. Explain four ways to avoid burnout and define ways to know it is time to move on.

This presentation is appropriate for new practitioners.

Susan G. Appelman, LCSW, ACSW, CASAC, is currently the New York City Director of Clinics for New Horizon Counseling Center. She is responsible for overseeing the clinic directors for the six Queens clinics of the agency. A large part of her job is also reviewing resumes and hiring for these sites as well as assisting the entire agency in hiring. Ms. Appelman has worked in for profit and non-profit agencies, as well as hospitals (in-patient and out-patient) for over forty years. She has always felt that an agency was her professional calling.
